Progressive die stamping is one of metal forming methods widely used to manufacture stamping parts for various industries, for example, automotive, electronics, household appliances and lighting. Progressive die stamping consists of many individual strokes, each of them performs different operation on the part. The part is carried smoothly in the tooling from one stroke to another by the scrap strip and is cut off from the scrap strip in the final stroke.

How to determine your stamping parts can be made by compound die stamping or progressive die stamping? It is depended on size, complexity and volume of your stamping parts. Progressive die stamping is used to produce large number of small-sized parts and keep the production costs as low as possible with its high productivity, the highest requirement in precision and stability will be fulfilled, material thickness can be min.0.1mm to max.3.0mm.

The progressive patterns are made by means of a cutting and forming process using a “die” that contains a series of simultaneous operations on the metal plate fed by strips from a roll of material. The finished metal part develops as the strip of material is subjected to the process through the die for stamping. This transformation is carried out incrementally, or progressively, through a series of stations that cut and shape the material in the desired shape. A die for progressive stamping is a forming device that is designed and constructed to convert a flat metal strip into finished pieces that are shaped according to the requested specifications. 

The die is placed in the press machine. As the press moves up, the die opens. When the press moves down, the die closes. The metal moves through the die when it is open, feeding into the die only the precise amount of material in each stroke of the press. The stamping die can modify the metal feed in various forms, such as cutting, bending, coining, grinding, burnishing, extrusion, flanging, embossing and embossing. When the die is closed, it performs its work on the metal and one or more finished pieces are ejected from it. Finished parts can be separated (discrete) or attached to a carrier strip and delivered to disposable or returnable reels.
